When your day ends that’s when the day begins for these students. Part-time students show up when everyone goes home, and they are always the last ones to say goodnight to security guards. Some find this every-day routine a blessing in disguise, while some long for the experience of having class during the day.

The downside of part-time

Taking a Taxi home late at night as a part-time student

With most part-time classes ending after dark, these students have a lot to consider when going home . “I take taxi to and from campus but it’s difficult to go back home especially if you are staying in the location,” says one student. The fear of traveling home in the dark places a cloud of worry over their heads, especially for those without a fixed ride home.

I didn’t even know that my course was part-time until I saw my timetable.

When asked if them being part-time students affected their university life in general, most could agree that it would not have been more beneficial if they were full-time. But university is more than just what you learn in class. It is much more than just a place for academic excellence.

University is the time to explore different social clubs offered by the university and the time to meet new and different kinds of people. But that’s not the case here because everything is practically over by the time they get to school.

Campus is always so empty

“Part-time doesn’t actually have any social aspects. It takes away from the day-to-day university experience. It also prevents you from having the simplest experiences like finding a campus crush.”

The ups!

You don’t have to wait that long for your food

But just wait. Hold on a minute! Being a part-time student has its perks! There are only a number full of part-time students at a university so campus is not that full. And do you know what that means? NO LONG LINES AT THE TUCK SHOP! Your don’t have to wait 30 minutes just to buy water.

No early classes for a part-time student

Last but not least, possibly the most important benefit you have as a part-time student, is that you don’t have any 07:30 classes. You get to sleep late! Full-time student wish they could be you when it comes to this.

So, if you are a part-time student, we get it! It’s frustrating to still be on campus when everyone else has gone home already. But you best believe that there are so many things you get to enjoy. Make the most of this experience while you can.
